So Free ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of families who use our platform. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information. Our founder built global data privacy programs before GDPR existed — privacy isn't an afterthought here, it's foundational.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored using industry-standard hashing). You may optionally provide household member names, ages, and dietary preferences to enhance your experience.

Family & Planning Data

Information you enter while using So Free, including trip plans, event details, task lists, meal plans, shopping lists, guest lists, and preferences. This is your data — we store it to provide our service.

AI Conversation Data

Messages exchanged with the So Free AI assistant are processed to provide responses and may be used to improve your personal experience (preference learning). Your conversations are never used to train general AI models.

Usage Data

We collect anonymized usage patterns (pages visited, features used, device type) to improve the product. This data cannot be used to identify individual users or families.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and improve the So Free platform
• To personalize your experience (preference learning, smart suggestions)
• To send service-related communications (account verification, security alerts)
• To send product updates and feature announcements (with opt-out)
• To generate anonymized, aggregated analytics to improve our product

We never: sell your data, show you ads, share your data with advertisers, or use your family data to train general-purpose AI models.

3. Data Sharing

We share data only in these limited circumstances:

• Within your household: Family members you invite can see shared trip plans, events, tasks, and other collaborative content.
• Service providers: We use trusted infrastructure providers (cloud hosting, email delivery) who process data on our behalf under strict agreements.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

So Free accounts are for users 18 and older. Child information (names, ages, preferences) entered by parents is managed under the parent's account. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us immediately.

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, PII redaction in AI processing pipelines, regular security audits, and access controls. While no system is perfectly secure, we treat your family's data with the same care we'd want for our own.

6. Your Rights

• Access: Request a copy of all data we hold about you
• Correction: Update or correct your personal information
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated data
• Export: Download your data in a portable format
• Opt-out: Unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information within 30 days and anonymize any aggregated analytics data. Backup copies may persist for up to 90 days before automatic deletion.

8. Changes to This Policy

We'll notify you of significant changes via email and in-app notification. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
